Michael C. Morrison says that magic is very common, even those of a military application. I agree, but believe that it would be rare that this was all these spells were used for. Your average peasent farmer is very poor and their time in short supply, so they had better get value for money from their spells.

Here is my suggestion for what milatristic spells can also be used for :

Spell Name Alternative Name

Disrupt Kill Rats
Bladesharp Speed Plough
Strength Work Hard
Mobility Chase Goats
Demoralise Calm Stallion
Beffuddle Stop Bull
Slow Catch Sheep
Speed Dart Hunters Friend

I'm sure that with the exception of Fireblade which Michael explains well, most spells could be available to any family. I would limit the spells to no more that 4 point for the head of the household and 2pt for everyone else. The possible exception being a healing 3 or 4 for the recognised healer in the house. (Farms are dangerous places and a healer would be essential).

I believe that in times of attack these spells that are ordinarily used for simple daily tasks could be used. e.g. Gradpas' short sword with speed plough 2 will act as though bladesharp 2 had been cast on it. Kill Rats will act as Hurt Footsoldier etc.

All IMHO.
