David Dunham:

>The problem of course is that the Western viewpoint is also true. Nor is
>the West the only source of Materialists (alas, I can't find it right now,
>it's in one of Greg Stafford's works in progress).

The Materialists are also to be found within the Lunar Empire.

Richard Ohlson:

>Just how serious is it to quit a cult? What all needs to be done to quit
>a cult like Humakt? Can people join for a year, for a certain goal, and
>then "Settle down?"

Depends on the cult in question. If it is a cultural god (like Orlanth, Kyger Litor and the Invisible God) then you are turning your back on the culture in question. OTH if it is a specialised faith within a culture (like Humakt) then one could settle down.

>In Humakt's case, would an ex-initiate be un-resurectable? Could they
>use table knives and swords? Would they be hunted down like treacherous
>dogs and carved into bite size bits?

Depends on the temple in question. An initiate could request to be voluntarily excommunicated or he may simply become an inactive initiate. He will not lose all connections and his oaths will still be binding. Hence I think he'd been unressurectable.

George W. Harris:

Me>>Peter Metcalfe: To detect [the time difference between Sog City and
>>Boldhome] would require something more accurate than waterclocks.

> How about Guided Teleport? More likely from Ralios to Boldhome, and
>would certainly require an extremely well-traveled Wind Lord, but certainly
>not beyond the realm of possibility.

Do you have an accurate timepiece? We don't know if the transition time is instantaneous or not.

Chris Bell:

>A Storm Khan would definitely know the myths where
>the sons of the Bull defeated and nearly destroyed the monster of
>darkness known as Tien, and as how one of the Bull's sons met his
>doom via the head-stealing powers of Tien/Than. These were no doubt
>early Urox/Storm Bull heroes/demigods.

Which is a different thing again from knowing when the erstwhile demon's HHD was. Can you name the Holy Day of Ba'al?

>I also support the view that Urox/Storm Bull Khans would have detailed
>knowledge of Chaos, and Chaos cults, due to first hand knowledge passed
>between initiates and the Khans, from hard-won, first hand experience.

Unfortunately because of acquired brain damage in their initiation ceremonies, they are not likely to remember this and so rely on sheer brute force IMHO.
