Jane Williams is first up, and to the point:

The reason I asked was I got the strong impression the Rex aspect was particular(ish) to tribal kings... I think I'm with Simon Bray (and Trots and Andre?) on this one (hence not quoted, Rule #1, yessah!).
Though there must be an initiatory aspect to being acclaimed chief, so perhaps one could say that pretty much by definition, that's the "Rex" part?

Kallyr has since been RetConned to be a Vingan, though; so is that a vote for "directly", or "via Vinga"?
> And finding a method of joining *just* Thunderous can be tricky.
Ah-hah -- perhaps the route is to join the Thunder Brothers? Woo-hee, a use for Hedkoranth+sibs... Presumably Vingans can do this, plus joining the Magic Weapon subcults, etc, sans difficulty.
Osentalkan Andre (with his Gbaji-ridden linebreaks) says:
> Males follow the way of Orlanth, and females the way of Ernalda, only
> women that want to follow the way of Orlanth join Vinga instead, a men
> that want to follow Ernalda will join Nandan.
Ah, but: I don't think Vinga and Nandan are at all dual. A Nandan initiate is socially a woman, pretty much (or at least, not-a-man
But not in either case to _specifically_ male or female magics. Probably a "female Nandan" is only one small Greg away, though. ;-)
Jeff Richard notes:
> A chief might be devoted to other gods or aspects as well.
Probably so -- I was thinking that was a _requirement_, actually, but I believe it transpired I was thinking of "Andrin's Words" for kings.
> Does that help?
Points for the best "Hantrafal" answer, Jeff.
Thanks for the various answers, all -- I can honestly (and unusually) say I found them all enlightening.
Slan libh,
Alex.
