My point is that DH fields armies of phalanxs, not archers. Archery seems to be an aristocratic weapon for DH - something for nobles to kill their prey, foes, whatever with - not something for masses of men to launch massive volleys with.

Traditionally the leader of a DH emperor was guarded by a sacred band of spearmen and bowmen. However, I have just as many references to Orlanthi bowmen in war as I do to DH's. This isn't to say that DH nobles aren't rightfully famed for their archery - they are. Not only that, but DH nobles know magic that can make their golden bows shoot arrows of flame - which is pretty darned impressive. But it doesn't seem to be the backbone of their armies.
