Western infantry

The West knows (and IMO rejects) one of the best infantries in Glorantha, the brithini horali. They just know that no matter how good it seems, it is an obsolete concept, even if it has some merit. Cavalry is the decisive arm, in their way of thinking, and most generals just maneuver for the great charge.

However, in a normal campaign in the West, it is possible that not a single battle is joined. Instead, a series of sieges and feints decides the war before a field battle is joined. And the knights like it that way. Meanwhile, the poor grunts storm battlements, dig mines, make sallies, and in general do all the work.

Concerning quality, if the cavalry expects to break through you, and you expect them to break through you, nine times out of ten they will break through. It is when you think you can stand fast, and they begin to doubt, that the charge advantage is over.

And in Glorantha, the knights have the magical advantage too.

However, as the Red Band shows, most of the military units are infantry. The knights just steal the limelight.
