I agree comepletely. By shedding the non-mystic trappings (magic etc), they can progress.

The terminology is somewhat lacking here as we use the term "failed" for both the abovementioned and those who have followed a mystic path, but fallen from it invluntarily and those who have followed a mystic path and fallen by purpose, in order to exploit it.
