Actually, AFAIK you're both right.

"Demon" is a very loose word, not really a definite class of otherworld entities. Andrew is right that a 'demon' *can be* any being you disapprove of, and in fact that's one of the only commonly held characteristics of all "demons", that someone, somewhere disapproves of them.

There is a very small class of entities that would generally considered to be demons by nearly everyone though, AFAIK, originating from regions in the sub-Underworld where cracks in Glorantha lead to the Chaos Planes. This is why "demons" are often held to be associated with the underworld, although in fact ALL of the otherworlds, including the Sky World, have "Hells", the entities of which could be called "demons" by someone somewhere (the Sky Horror being an example of a demon from the Sky World).

The subjective nature of the term lends itself to multiple interpretations.

Don't ask me about Angels though... :D
