Looking at the rules posted:

Trading Wounds for APs

The winner of an exchange may convert 7 APs worth of a transfer or forfeit into a wound. The loser keeps the 7 APs, but suffers a -1 wound. You may not inflict multiple wounds from a single result.

Your Glorantha may be different.

Although, doing it your way does seem interesting. It seems to leave people getting far more wounded, especially at low level. And it does suit a musketeer style of fighting a bit more. If you get down low, you take a wound for the chance to pick up your sword again, to keep on fighting. When you finally get knocked down to 0, you've fallen over, your sword it way off to the side, and your foe's sword is at your throat. You're also bleeding from 5 wounds. But hey, maybe your friends now will have time to catch up.

This is compared to the current style where wounds are better off for slowing a fellow down. For example, wearing down the 5w5 large giant, so that his skill is stuck at a 10 (from 17), leaving him almost hamstrung, unable to tentpeg your followers as much. That or you're just in the current fight, weakening the foe in order to make sure he's weak enough to lose the real fight, planning to run away once he's wounded enough.

Now, your way does get a bit strange a fight to the death, as compared to a fight to the defeat. This is because a wound will be a no brainer. Well... Unless you decide to drop out, letting your companions finish the fight.
