This is a narrative device to allow the heros and major narrator characters to pull off those last-minute even-in-defeat tricks. It is not meant for the normal run-of-the-mill characters. looking back on it, the text is wrong - this is *not* the ability of sidekicks or henchmen to rejoin the fight, this is the dying declaration, or falling on the detonator.
