Welcome Stephen,

>I understand that the feats within the Rune
Affinities have been left undefined to encourage people to utilise them but I'd like some examples to see the sort of things this Rune Magic can achieve....<

This has been a source of endless debate :-)

The most important thing to read is:

http://www.glorantha.com/hw/javern_sunsetleap.html

(Sunset Leap was the example used in numerous debates on the list, before Gregs post).

IMO in game mechanic terms feat names mainly imply special effects. It does not matter if you use Armor of Woad, Leaping Shield, or Einherjar of Humakt in game terms - your probably gaining a defensive edge. However the description of how it is achieved should be inspired by the feat name, and is probably where your game will stand or fall in terms of enjoyment. In our game cool uses of feats are worth hero points at the end of the session.

A feat will tend to be used for one of two things:

  1. Enhancement (augment or edge)
  2. as an ability (in which case it is used same way as other skills in a contest i.e a magical attack in an extended contest allows you to bid AP)

Have any more specific questions?

If you have trouble figuring out what a feat name implies see the files section of this group for suggestions. IMO ignore any extra mechanics there - that misses the point, though YMMV, and remember some of these were written when most of us were still getting our head round the game.
