Wulfīs Costtable

Dear group!
I was critisized für only submitting a table, that showed the whole ratings in a different context. The point to me was, that it makes assessing of ratings easier, because you have different categories on one glance side by side.So you can better compare and assess easier.I didnīt say I invented anything new.I wanted to show information in a more suitable and usefull way.For me,it makes assessing ratings easier.
But I slowly understand that most people in this discussion want to know, how to add any form(in opposition to information, which is what I think, ratings are)and than convert it into a rating. Allright,Wulf has done it-which is at least something constructive in opposition to critisizing everything and everybody and thus pulling this whole discussion on a personal level every time. I would really be happy if it worked, because it would surely make things a bit easier and faster. The method I suggested is indeed a lot more tricky and not very „precise".
So I tried a few calculatingexamples.Beside a few mistakes(?)-a horse has a value of 5W not 10W,according to my rulesbook.A cow is CR15 not 20.
Anyway, here is my first example:if a costrating of one pig is 5,which also equals 3 lunars, then 10 pigs are supposed to be 30 L,your result is 40L....640 pigs are supposed to be 2560L,instead of 1920(640x3L).
Next example:one set of common clothing have a worth of 3L=CR5,so two sets of clothing have a worth of 6L,which gives us a costrating of 10- 11.....So 100 sets of common clothing have a worth of 300L,which is CR20W,what means rich.So a rich character, like an important priest could possibly own 100 sets of common clothing...hm,I donīt think so. Another one:an oxen has a worth of 40L,so two oxens should be 120,not 80L.
Last one:cottar wereguild is 10cows,thus 20Lx10=200L.The result of your table says 320L.
It was a good try,but I think it doesnīt work-I was always bad at mathematics,so I canīt really tell you, whatīs the mistake in the whole concept, but Iīm sure somebody else can. What you want is,that the wealthrating is linear. But three minimal wealthy persons (3x5) are not average wealthy,if they join forces.Instead you might say, that their combined wealth is 6.But this is something I judged quite arbitrarily....well maybe not completelyit īs my assessing, that is the result of my „intuitive"understanding of the ratingnumberlaws.I know, you will not let me getting away with this, because you donīt care about my intuitive understanding, and you are right.
Maybe there is another way of solving this problem, how about making up a catalogue of questions, that will help you assessing the value of anything.I know that the rules are already there(because we have ratings for a lot of things already),still itīs difficult to percieve and express them with words.I have repeatedly pointed out, that there are already some good hints, what each targetnumber or rating exactly symbolizes. All,that is there to do,is to formulate them.Thatīs why I made the table, where you have different categories on one glance,so you can see how different forms are summed up under the same rating, canīt you see that?!Itīs the same with resistances. How do you make up a resistance for a specific situation? You read the examples, compare and then assess the value that seems to be appropiate.
Example:what should the resistance be,for falling safely from a small tree?It surely needs a little bit of training(think of a stuntman),so itīs a one or two masteryfeat.(remember W=skill of a journeyman (basic training),W2=skill of a master(experienced)).Also I have my little version,of what the levels before a mastery mean(5-little training,10-good or average training,15-advanced training,20-very good training). All in all this sums up,like something about 10W-10W2. So this is all an abstraction of various information. If we wanted to do it like some people demand,we had a resistance for falling down one meter and could than add up the resistances for x meter. But this is not reasonable, because it gets more dangerous, the higher the height you fall off from.So instead you have to assess. Okay, you say,the wealth is an exception, and I say itīs not. Also thatīs the thing that is so great about HW,everything follows ONE concept,so itīs streamlined, universal and easy. peace
