Demo advice

G'day all,

I am about to run the Black Spear demo at a local Convention over Easter. I would welcome any advice on how to ease new people (and old RQ hacks) into Hero Wars.

I have already run the "Return to Apple Lane" demo with friends (old RQ hacks) and I found the extended contests got bogged down due to low AP bids.

I really liked the simple system suggested by (Graham ? or some other Brit ?) since it reminded me of Pendragon Pass (where one combat dice roll put my character into bed with a major wound for 3 seasons, luckily at the end of the session and that will teach me not to duel Humakti weaponthanes).

However Roderick came along and finally gave a brilliant yet simple explanation of why the extended sytem is a good one (I suggest saving that and putting it in the FAQ so that when people get bogged down by the numbers they can refer back to it for a breath of fresh air).

Also, someone also pointed out that Hero Wars should be demoed canonically at conventions. So help me teach a system that in the one go I have given it seemed to be slow and cumbersome (an unfair statement). I would like some advice to help stop people getting bogged down on the maths (as a physicist I find the numbers and probability easy but all my arts & humanities friends get really twisted into knots).

Cheers, Andrew
