That would work. I think technically what you are doing is enhancing his combat with his Large by transfering AP's (the third type of enhancement, as opposed to the Edge he gets for using a tree as a club, or an augmentation (which adds to his skill as well as his AP's). Not that it's particularly important, unless your players try and use AP's from one skill while rolling against another.
