Except when it doesn't. We don't in our games: 'Deadly Spear Throw' is handled the same as 'Ranged Combat (Javelin)' when used as an attack or augment. You've never let Karlina kill people with a roll against a resistance of 14 while using it (it says 'Deadly').
The idea that magic abilities are fundamentally (in rules terms) different from mundane abilities is just an ill-considered can of worms. You end up requiring twice as many statistics for things ('Run Fast' and 'Magically Run Fast'), and what happens when a mundane ability is pitted against a magic ability?
