Not having enough money to join the GTA is no reason to lament. You can also get GTA membership by DOING things for the good of Glorantha and Heroquest. In particular, you can run demos at game stores or conventions. Reaching Initiate level in the GTA can be done quickly through this method. As long as you send us the names and emails of the people you have run the demo for, you can start earning credits towards GTA membership. Email me if you want more complete details.
