The new book sort of gives the impression with the 4 (5) worlds overlapping on the mundane world, and with comments about the barriers weakening, and an impending 'big thing'...
That Glorantha has a tidal world effect, and that the worlds get closer and at times merge. Every epic_time_period the worlds all come together and the barrier drops and a 'godtime' ensues. So the barrier resistance value could merely be considered a distance the worlds are apart... and might be different at different times for different worlds (or even different places).
Sometime the spirit world gets closer and spirits gain dominance/power due to their ease of access. etc
So the impending Hero Wars is a time when the worlds (or at least the theist world) all merge into one, the barriers collapse and its every man and god for himself. And it would mean everyone is mortal and vulnerable to death. And there would be no 'otherworld' penalty - there would just be 'one world' for a time. Would time restart for the gods?
