Getting back to this, the reason I brought this up was that I thought that maybe the intention of the rules was that there might be a strong link between the magical ranks and concentration, but having closely re-read the Wizardry rules last night, I can see that this assumption was wrong.

In fact, in Wizardry, concentration is far more optional than in the other magic systems, which is a good thing really. Yes, it's possible to be an Adept Wizard and carry on using Common Magic, or even to also be an Initiate in a theist cult if you can find the time for it ! (vicious HP costs, though ... )

Shades of God Learnerism ... ;-)

It seems that whether to concentrate or not is a local choice by various schools, churches, orders, colleges, Universities, individuals, et cetera rather than being a rules
stricture thing such as with theism, animism, and even CM.

Who was it that did the final Wizardry rules text BTW ?

I really, really like this particular section of HQ. :-)
