Wyters are really, really big and sophisticated guardians.

Not unless you are being attacked by food... Rampaging kumquats or the like, for example or a berserk sheep.

(Unless you're a troll... but that's sort of cheating)

Nope. You get the blessing at your rating. It reflects that its your abilty to use the power at YOUR discretion. Guardians usually have their own ideas about usefulness - and the big landscape entities are kind of restricted. However, if soeone who is under the protection of that entity is attacked, its possible the guardian might protect him.

Wyters are just really big guardians who are supported and sustained deliberately by entire clans and tribes. They also have the support of the "ancestors" - all those who have died and are off in the afterlife still count as members.

And as they grow in rating, guardians (and wyters) also reveeal more powers if they have them. They also serve as the 'focus' for any blessings obtained by heroquest by the clan/tribe members so many of the abilities may be heroquest-derived and quite possibly temporary.

Hope this helps!

Jeff

P.S. Any suggestions on good books by the list memebers about early New Kingdom Egypt would be greatly appreciated.
