Depends on the player, but often true. I had an old GM who loved to "f**k you with a spiked dildo", which was his term for creating interesting failure. A tradition was established around that gaming table of yelling "shut up!" whenever a player suggested a more horrible result for failure than had yet been said. The funny thing was that the players would compete for the best "shut up!" moment, and throw hooks to the GM all the time. :)
