I'd tend to go with the second example - just the follower and his "type" -
then you can fill in the rest later when you're settling on actual
abilities, unless he has some amazing extraordinary power - "Dravdul, the
Flying Scribe with X-ray vision".
But if you're giving him mundane abilities, I wouldn't worry about putting
them in your 100 words.
But that's just me...
