I'd agree with this, and the reason could be that there is little drama in instant heal facilities. When a protaganist takes a mighty wound, recovers a bit then carries on, that tells us something about the character.
Healing in Runequest and D&D are of course quite ridiculous really, and only serve the strategic war game type apeal of their combat systems. I mean, you get stabbed and beaten to within an inch of your life, heal, and do the same again in the next room!! Heroquest gives a far superior model of course, but I do like to play a bit of RQ and D&D tp satisfy my more 'gamey' instincts.
