Yes, but I basically see it as 'yet another way for
the narrator to fudge'.
IMO, the key factor is the stated goal the player
character has.
If he fails at that, he fails.
The narrator can narrate and discriminate among
different levels of defeat, but she should not be
allowed to interpret failure as transference to the
'hidden clauses'.
For one reason because it is another effort of
creativity and intuition resting on the narrator's
shoulders.
For another reasons because it may be sensed as
railroading by the players.
