The irony, of course, being that the example is supposed to show how easy it is to get the Great Unwashed playing HeroQuest in Glorantha and enjoying themselves. YGMIM: Your Glorantha May Involve Munchkins.

In cases like that, it's up to the Narrator to maintain the tone of the campaign. If Kathy (the Narrator in the given example) had wanted to encourage a more serious campaign, she would probably work the player over to attempt some sort of in-character justification, or at least some player effort to understand the context of the HP expenditure. But then, YGMBPFC: Your Glorantha May Be Played For Camp.
