Going back to that situation... assuming that we have:

Indy: 6 AP, 5w Ranged Weapon(Pistol), 1w Close Combat Swordsman: 25 AP, 5w Close Combat(Sword), 14 Dodge

And it's Indy's bid... one point I'd mention is that we don't know what the rank for a gun is. A gun is the ultimate high-rank weapon - so Indy's 6 AP bid with his 5w Pistol, if successful against the Swordsman's 14 Dodge, could represent quite a high AP drain on the Swordsman.
