Obviously both would be best (if one has the facilities to deal with them). However, speaking personally, I'd far sooner attempt this from an electronic copy (unlaid-out or no) _and_ the hardcopy, than the hardcopy alone.

And the easiest way to find all the occurrences is electronically, regardless of whether this gives you page numbers directly. I'd personally hope for a more complete index than this, but that much would be an excellent start. (Though of course, it will merely start _some_ people off complaining about why it wasn't done straight off, anyway...)

I understand that, but surely the point at issue (if any) is giving all aid to anyone daft enough to volunteer to do this.
