I would however just like to check with everyone the question as to whether you're edges help

you when you are both an actor or an opponent. Armor and weapon rank is dependant on this:

"Comparing Equipment

To use equipment differences in combat, subtract the defender's armor
rank from the attacker's weapon rank.

The resulting number is an Edge (if positive)or Handicap (if negative) applied to the Attacker. Remember that when both sides have an edge, subtract the higher edge from the lower so that only one side has an edge."

If attacker implies actor and defender opponent the edge varies. i.e. it is not sum of my weapona nd armor ranks vs. sum of your weapon and armor ranks but weapon vs armor. This has been my assumption.

In this case I can see "Armor of Woad" should be an edge handled like armor, i.e. as defender, but not to offense. There is probably a case for "SwordHelp" being good for both (i.e. an edge to offense and defense), but "Shield Destroyer" is surely of use only in offense.

Now the rules state that:

"Characters may be given Edges in some situations which allow them to
press their advantage when they succeed in extended contests. An edge is a number which is added to APs staked in an exchange when the character's opponent must transfer or forfeit APs.

A Handicap is a reverse edge it is a number subtracted from the stake when the character's opponent must transfer or forfeit APs. Handicaps
may never reduce an AP bid below 1.

Edges and handicaps are added or subtracted to the bid before the bid is multiplied for degree of success."

OK if this is right for edges, and I hope I am interpreting the rules as edge/handicap always applies to actor i.e. he who bids, then if the opponent defensive edge of say +9(R3 armor +6 enhancement)against the attacker/actor's +5 offensive edges (R3 weapon +2 enhancement) then attacker/actor would attack at a handicap of -3. Conversely if the actor has a sum of edges of +5 (R3 weapon +2 enhancement) and the opponenet of +3 (R3 armor) then the actor gains a +2 edge.

Now Augmentation affects number so this is easier to handle as I can add the augmentation to my appropriate skill, rather than subtract it from yours to represent my improved odds to gain a successfull outcome. However again it might be more realistic to suggest that defense augmentations reduce your chances. Any comments on the maths on this. Is there a significant difference to me reducing your chance to succeed over improving my chance to succedd with the tables. If so it might be more relaistic to play it that way.

Am I reading this right?
