Try fighting with a single broadsword agains somebody wielding two. _effective_ reach is a pretty good description. The person wielding just one sword has real trouble getting even a chance to connect.

But there is a gridwork of steel (bronze) to get through for the single sword wielder, and when you attack with your only weapon, you leave yourself very open to a simultanious parry & counterattack.

Indeed. You really need some skill with it. Gives good opportunities for descriptive gameplay though, and personalizes the fighter nicely.
