This is what I've seen elsewhere too. Stirrups also make riding much more comfortable, if one knows how to "lighten" the trot (raising up a bit in the stirrups every other "bounce"). I'm afraid I don't know the english term. The finnish one would translate to "eased trot" or "lightened trot"
