Indeed, does he actually need to physically bite the opponent, or can it be used to enhance any attack intended to pin doen the opponent?

I agree, it is a problem. If you use the feat to augment a nonmagical  skill then you don't have a problem - describe the ritual you are encting (Painting yourself up with woad, calling curses down upon your foe, spitting, dancing widdershins around a carved statue...).

If you are actually using the feat directly in the contest then ideally you need to find a way to describe your use of it - In this case "Run across treetops" is no easier or more difficult than "I chase him using my 'Run fast'... I'm still chasing him... and again...", and only harder than "I hit him with my sword... And again... and again..." because we all have a much clearer picture of how combat actually works.
