No not like that. The exchange has been on going with the normal Close Combat rolls. To try and surprise the bad guys the character tries the leaping shield feat. If he succeeds he has burst through the Wall and is amongst them. They have lowered AP and he is back to using his CC. If he fails he has bounced off the Shield Wall and with lowered AP (off balance or on the ground) and is back to using CC.
