Example of play

Here is an example of play in my game from last night.

My players are engaged in a tale of skulduggery amongst the horse racing set of Yuthuppan Nobles. There are a varied bunch, some of which have taken to heart the debauchery at the centre of the Empire.

One PC is a Deezolan missionary on a sabbatical from her work, the other is some kind of outlaw noble who worships Kenstrata. She decided to convert him to the proper way of thinking.

This started as an extended contest between the two of them. The missionary enhanced her Proselytize 17 to 20 with her debate skill but the hunter failed to get an edge on his Worship Kenstrata with his knowledge of Sedenyan Philosophy.

The hunter reduced the missionary to 7 AP after she failed her intial strong statement and didn't resist his enthusiatic counters.

One of the other PCs, a debauched Rufelza worshipping Gladiator and bodyguard stepped in to bolster the confidence of the Missionary and lent her 10 AP bringing her back to 17 AP.

At this point the Irripi Ontot Devotee became weary of the petty arguing and stepped in with a cutting remark aimed at both participants, betting her whole 17 AP of Sedenya Philosophy. She failed so did the Hunter but the Missionary succeded.

This left Hunter and Scribe on 0 AP and Missionary on 17 AP. I interpreted this as the Scribe starting a joke, the Hunter interrupting with the wrong punchline and the Scribe then getting flustered and fluffing her lines.

Both defeated parties then quickly departed before the missionary could go for a coup de grace and actually convert them to Deezola.

Although sometimes a bit clunky, on the whole I thought the exchange went very well. It is certainly something that you would be hard pushed to emulate in many other games. Using an argument instead of a fight also gets the players used to the rich possibilities available in HW. It was however the only extended resolution in the whole session, most things can be resolved with just opposed quick rolls.
