Hang on, there's a difference between Augmenting with the Light Feat, and attacking with it. You can just attack with the Feat INSTEAD of the sword, using the Feat's Target Number/rating, but the same AP as before, or you can spend an Unconnected Action Augmenting your sword with it, again INSTEAD of attacking. Augmenting during a contest takes an action during which you cannot make an attack. The Troll would be forced to defend against the direct attack by Light with an appropriate ability (which would probably be pretty poor, given his fear of light), but after you've augmented with it, and on your next action attack with the sword, the Troll can defend as though against a normal sword, possibly at a small penalty for the Light augmentation. His defense against the direct Light Feat would be poorer, so it would be advantageous to attack with that.
