Why do Brits drive on the left, and most other folk on the right?
Well, everyone mounts a horse from the left, because then your sword
doesn't get in the way.
You mount & dismount your horse at the side of the road, not in the
mud in the middle. So you stay on the left of the road.
Of course, you only HAVE a horse if you're a rich nobleman.
But noblemen found it better to get their feet muddy & grovel a bit
rather than loose a foot of height... so they rode on the right of
the road.
And the rest of the world just followed like sheep...
