Different swords. The sword in CoT is Ironbreaker that was originally wielded by Distan, a general of Arkat and his forefather grabbed it from Thunder Mountain. As far as anybody knows, its antecedents are Orlanthi.
The Sword of Vengeance is in Borderlands and is used to strike down the assassin of the possessor. It does not automatically kill nor does it prevent resurrection of the person that it has killed.
