I'm not sure I was happy with the familiar as a part of the Wizardly world. It seemed a bit on the 'typical fantasy.' My own feeling on it was that didn't really have a Gloranthan texture about it. Or they could have been made as uncommon as an Allied Spirit.

I think they would work best as a specialized follower. I think some Churches may frown on having them but I don't see a reason why, IF your branch of Logic allows it, you could proabbly learn some sort of Embody Familiar enchantment to create your follower. Probably have abilities like 'Know Wizard's Grimoire' (to help with spells) and the other useful ability determined by the species of the familiar such as "Follow by Getting Underfoot" for cats. More powerful familiars (the traditional faustian imps and the like) would probably be Allies and function under similar constraints.

Probably not, if they are no longer a 'Wizard 4.0 O/S Supported Feature.' However, there's still ways to summon and embody critters which lets sorcerers continue to summon up Nymphs and the like...

That's a plus, I think. =)
