Wyter than Wyte

Stefan:
  1. do such mustered support have a special "temporary" Wyter for the
    [military]
    campaign?

In a sense, a wyter *is* a group, the collective soul of a community, so any organised group can manifest a wyter through the right ritual and preparation. Wyters are explained on pages 96-103 of Thunder Rebels.

A ritual to bind/create a wyer would be appropriate for warriors travelling together, especially if centered upon an existing war banner, sacred weapon or something similar.

Perhaps 'basic training' for a new group is in effect a wyter ritual, especially when the wyter is of a type focussed through the commander.

At one stage in the devloping concept of the wyters, they were going to be a new, Argrath invention. There is still room for the idea that one of the Argrath's finds ways of linking people of diverse backgrounds into a single wyter, of of 'stacking' existing wyters, or something similar. Because of this, I would be hesitant to make wyter-related rituals *too* easy or powerful.

4. each unit? [as the lunars do?]

Variants on the Lunar example - through sacred weapons or armour, totem animals, wind banners, companion winds, clan totem poles (in effect, mobile shrines) battle pipes (now there's a thought), or ancestral trophies. The wyter rules are very versatile, almost anything can act as a wyter with the right preparation.

Its a two edged sword or course: any enemy group will try and destroy your wyter's object as its first priority.

5. and how to "get rid" of it after returning to their tula?

War band wyters will be supported by the fyrd, and so maintained iondefinitely.

6. if a clan has got a Wyter, does a tribe has one, too?

If it has, my thought that is that it would be a relatively powerless and highly specialised one, perhaps linked to the kingship ceremonies and sacred paraphenalia.

7. and what about the Kingdom itself? Sartar as Wyter? which abilities would such a Wyter have?

Worship of Sartar himself as a god superceeds this, as, I would imagine, does worship of the Red Emperor. A deity has more versatility, and is much harder to destroy.

8. and can a merchant travel safely without a Wyter, let's say
a. through Sartar
b. foreign territory [Sartar - Pavis]
c. enemy territory [Uz-lands]

Merchants reliy on more flexible measures, like bodyguards and bribes. Wyters for small groups aren't very powerful.

  1. and how easy, as Philippe asked before, is it to add or substract people from the "fellowship"?

Becoming part of a wyter is like becoming a part of a group. It would take some time (several weeks?) , especially if the group were relative strangers, and common worship and ritual. Clansfolk attaching themselves to a battle banner would be easier and quicker.

  1. what about, say lunar "tourists" in the barbarian lands: is it common for them to travel without magical support [civilians won't be always accompanied by a battalia...]? how do they travel in foreign countries at all
    [concerning
    magic]?

Again, I think bodyguards and other more mundane defences would work better.

John

Words are the litmus paper of the minds. If you find yourself in the power of someone who will use the word "commence" in cold blood, go somewhere else very quickly. But if they say "Enter", don't stop to pack.
