OiD is more like the Law of Gravity being repealed. Something that was understood pretty darn well, and accepted as "truth, always" no longer works. Perhaps the only RW equivalent in religion would be to have Jesus' original notes on "that Messiah scam" come to light and be proven beyond a doubt to have been written by *the* Jesus of Nazarath. (Even then, not everyone would belive that the notes came from Him...).

OiD kicks out all the props supporting the Orlanthi religion and way of life. The Orlanthi don't just *doubt* their faith, it is conclusively proven that, for whatever reason, Orlanth (and the rest of the gods) CAN not or WILL not reply to any prayers, services, sacrifices, requests for Divine Intervention, etc. etc. etc. Even stuff you don't normally ask for or give thanks for are affected: breath, magic, the turning of the seasons, fertility, heat, culture.

Diehards try the same old rituals to try to reach the Gods. People with a more materialistic view find comfort in the "enemy" Lunar religion. But it's not so hard to be "materialistic" when you are freezing and starving! True and Wannabe Capital-H Heroes try to find a suitable and realistic alternative (ie, not the Solars or Lunars or Darkness or Chaos, or ...) or try to solve the main problem (that O&E don't respond).
