let me throw my 0.02 in, too -

other than the two rulebooks I would advise you to buy 'In Wintertop's Shadow' and 'The Thieves' Arm', both from The Unspoken Word' [ http://www.celtic-webs.com/theunspokenword/ ].

The first provides an excellent setting and the latter a series of adventures that can even be used as a single campaign. if you have greater ambitions, add Thunder Rebels as it's needed for In Wintertop's Shadow [but *can* be skipped you want to start without too many cultural details].

Storm Tribes is great, too, especially if you & your players are used to RuneQuest and the variety of cults there [Thunder Rebels 'only' includes Orlanth and Ernalda].

Anaxials Roster is useful, but if you're not into critter books too much and don't have any problems to make creatures up on the fly, which is quite easy with Hero Wars, then you might put it on the not-so-necessary-list.

Barbarian Adventures and Orlanth Is Dead are both useful, and the latter is a great good beyond this, too, but I advise you to wait until the Kerofinela Gazeteer comes out next year.

This isn't true of course if you own the relevant fanzines [Tales Of The Reaching Moon #6, #18 & maybe #19] Questlines #1 or Enclosure #1 and/or 'King Of Sartar'. While none of them compiles all information on Sartar in one place [though KoS comes closest], all contain a lot of useful stuff.

The above is to be considered my personal POV, of course and might be viewed as controversial by others, so try to get as much other opinions as possible.

You won't need the Glorantha book in the first place, unless you're very interested in it.

A different starting option would be Pavis, the former box and its companion volume 'Big Rubble' have been reprinted in a huge single book. But you would have to convert the stats, since they were written for RQ2. OTOH there's Masks Of Pavis and more from www.tradetalk.de to let you experience the city and its surroundings for a long time to come.

Last, but not least, there's the Lunar Handbook coming out this year. though I haven't seen it yet and therefore can't comment details, it will certainly provide great adventure opportunities. maybe in this case the purchase of the Glorantha book will enhance your game, given the big chapter on the empire. but this is pure guessing, so maybe somebody involved in the project could give you more reliable information on this.

BTW, www.rpg.net has a lot of reviews on the relevant books, just search their review database. [some of them are linked to via Issaries' site, but the non-Issaires products aren't, so you might go there directly]

hope this helps a little bit.
