Just use the existing rules to resolve mass combat, Hoplite 5w vs Orlanthi Raider 1w can just as easily become Phalanx 5w vs Orlanthi warband 1w
Tale a look at Roderick's emerging GlorWar rules - the discussion group is _at_ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Glorwar, with the latest rules in the Files section. Admitedly, these are skirmish rather than mass battle rules, but again ought to be scaleable.
