Nobody knows.

He was originally a man who became the Living God after defeating the troll ruler. His old mortal body wore out and so he instituted the Tournaments of Luck and Death to find fitting replacements for his spirit. The winner of these tournaments gives the Pharaoh his body and is liberated with Angelic Powers.

He didn't hate the Uz but sought to liberate the land from Darkness.

For similar reasons that the Borg are opposed, I suppose.
