Killer Frogs
Mini Review by Roderick

Reaper has produced a pair of nice Killer Frogs (Dark Heaven Legends pack 2665 - Killer Frogs, Sculpted by J. Wiebe). These babies are BIG frogs (okay, in real life they are small-medium frogs, but put them up against 25mm lead miniatures and suddenly you have humongous froggies).

Two poses are provided. The first is squatting, knees splayed out, belly on the ground. The belly looks full - perhaps he is enjoying his last meal. The figure is 35mm Nose-to-tailbone, about 15mm ground-to-eye. Not an inspiring figure, but well-crafted. He looks like he wouldn't be too adverse to another hero, perhaps by picking him off with his tongue.

The second figure is much more active - it is leaping, mouth agape, revealing a disturbing amount of tooth and a surprisingly human tongue. Arms are tight to the body, and legs are pressed together as they push his bulk off of the ground (sculpted as some sort of aquatic leaves). This guy is smaller than the first, measuring only 28mm nose-to-tailbone. The stretched legs make the whole about 45mm long. The legs seem too small for the size of the frog, both too short and not muscular enough, almost as if the sculptor intended to make a smaller frog, then changed his mind when he got to the body.

Both frogs are well cast, with very light mold lines (so light they are hard to find!), no flash, and only minor tags. Other than the reservations I have about the legs on the Leaping Frog, these are extremely nice figures.

For Glorantha, these make good (but small) Cliff Toads (Anaxial's 105). Now, am I going to paint them the boring "grey warty skin" of Anaxial's Description; brightly, like the Poison Arrow Frogs of South America; or boring "Generic Green Frog"?

I've uploaded three pictures to the folder "Miniatures Reviewed" at http://photos.groups.yahoo.com/group/HeroWars/lst. I've used Lance & Laser's Red Emperor for size comparison.
