This remains one of the things I like. There is evil, and there is Chaos, and its not a 1-1 correlation.

That's intriguing. The abandoning of faith is an interesting point, actually. The trader is of Orlanthi origin, even if he left Sartar for Karse fairly young. It seems likely it was postinitiation,  so he should be an Issaries initiate (the family is a trader family). Other intiations are possible. But he's not sure he would have stayed an initiate. I know people can change initiations over time in Orlanthi tradition, but given Issaries is so cosmopolitan, I somehow think he might have just shifted to a less classically Orlanthi version of the cult.

It has now occurred to me that if the Lunars have taken over and he's serious about moving up in the society of the new leaders, he may find pressure to convert to Etyries or Lokarnos to get access to better clients. So there may be an abandoning your faith story going on here.
