There's no ned for secret societies - temple warbands fit the bill nicely. After all, unless a clan has it's own temple to [whoever], it probably has at most one or two worshippers of [whoever], so [whoever] worshippers from the surrounding area will join up at the nearest temple for the important sacrifices, or maybe even live there permanently (cf the Indrodar Greydog temple to Humakt in TotRM 19). During a call-out, it's natural for these co-religionists to form up together - in the case of cults like Vanganth, the local Warleader will know where to put them for best effect, perhaps giving them an "independent command" under their own leader, rather than having them form in the fyrd.

Using the warfare terminology of Sartar Rising, in a clan-on-clan battle, Vanganthi would be used in the Warrior's Battle; in Tribe-on-tribe conflicts they'd probably be assigned to the Spear, Sword (or possibly Javelin, but rarely, as it is the "forlorn hope" of heortling warfare, and survivors aren't necessarily expected).
