That's my view. Loose political factions don't have guardians or rituals. Herobands do.

I usually list the affiliation, although I am increasing inclined to put the Guardian abilities on every charcter who has them. Of course that means I need to come up with the bloodline guardians (ie. ancestors) and so on. When my players participate in formal clan raids or wars, they've gotten the bonuses.

In many campaigns, the players have left their traditional hearths and villages, and so they would belong to less herobands. Many prominent NPCs are written in broad brush strokes and so the fact that they have a bloodline bonus (for whatever the ancestors help with) is pretty irrelevant.

That's usually been my experience. My characters have lots of relationships.
