From the Humakti cult writeup in Tales #6, Humakt was seeking the True Sword after Orlanth stole his and used it in a foolish quarrel. He found it at the centre of the world where the Monster of the Void was devouring the cosmos at an unholy rate. Humakt slew the Monster making it possible for others to heal the wound it had made (ie Magasta's Pool) but lost the sword again. Seeking it, he ended up in Hell and found both the Sword and the Monster of the Void. He crippled the Monster allowing Arachne Solara to devour it. He then used the sword to shatter the Well of Death and return life to the world.

The above myth is somewhat god-learned and future HW products may give a different Heortling version. But I think it's important to realize that so long as death is kept _pure_, the world lives. The resurrection of the world is no big deal to Humakt as its death in the Gods War was false and unclean. Humakt serves the Cosmos in its struggle against Chaos by keeping true to death's purpose and smiting those that would pervert it, be they undead, poisoners, rival death gods etc. Hence the Humakti anal-retentiveness in just how they kill people.
