Oddly enough, even though my game and Ian's game have many similarities, here we differ. I hand out two hero points at the beginning of each session and then reward the players with some at the end of each session (between two and five). The points I hand out at the end are normally mostly directed hero points (example from my last game, "increase your Disrespectful of Authority one point" or "increase your Ambush one point"). As a result, my players tend to have very diverse skills and after seven years of game time, three players are now recognized as being in the clan's top tier of warriors and another player is a clan priest.
