It's a slow period on the digest, so I figured I'd give more Heortling background from the SFC house campaign. I've written a short history of the Varsmaring bloodline of the Orlmarthing clan of the Colymar tribe - which is an example of one of the more powerful and well connected Sartarite bloodlines. Hope you find it interesting:

The Varsmaring bloodline traces itself back to King Varsmar Barntadusson, who was tribal king from c.1371 to c.1392 - about two hundred and thirty years ago. He was the fourth king of the Colymar and fought alongside the Lismelder against the creatures of Beast Valley and in the Zombie Wars. His father was Barntradus, who first contact the North Tribes (the Tarshites).

The two main branches of the bloodline - the Hendssons and the Kenventssons are decended from Kentvent the Short and his much younger first cousin Hend the Old. Kentvent allied himself and his family to Saronil Sartarsson, whom he served as a thane. His more illustrious son, Korlmar, was elected warlord of the Runegate Tribes (Taraling, Enhyli and Narri) and became king of the Colymar in 1552. He was a great friend of High King Jarolor Longstride and was one of his captains in the army that aided King Palashee Long Axe of Tarsh - at the Battle of Karnge Farm he won great fame. Prince Jarolor rewarded his friend with the hand of his niece, Yerestra Oneselinsdottir, with whom he had two sons - Orlgard and Maniski. Lunar assassins killed King Korlmar in 1558. There is a well-known poem about King Korlmar still told by Sartarite and old Tarshite skalds.

Hend Rangorsson was the cousin of Kentvent the Short. He was about the same age as Korlmar Kentventsson and was one of Korlmar's most trusted thanes - but he was not a great warrior. After Korlmar's death, Hend's warrior brother Orlgandi became chief and king of the Colymar. King Orlgandi maintained Korlmar's friendship and support of the House of Sartar - and was one of High King Jaralor's bravest retainers. Hend was his brother's chief advisor and functioned as stand-in chief when Orlgandi was in Boldhome or on campaign. King Orlgandi was killed in 1565, heroically protecting High King Jarlor at the Battle of Dwarf Ford, when he and the High King's household stood to allow the tribesmen to escape, shattering the Iron Maidens regiment opposing them, but nearly being exterminated in the process.

After the death of Orlgandi, Hend's eldest son Kenstrel became chief of the Orlmarthing and was a friend and strong supporter of High King Tarkalor. However, many clans had grown resentful of the close relationship between the Orlmarthing kings and the House of Sartar, so the clans chose Umathkar Orldagssdottir from the Antorling clan. She, and her successor brother Penterest, chose to expand the local power of the Colymar and fought a war with the Malani (which the Antorling kings won) and with High King Tarkalor (which they lost). In 1577, the clans chose Kenstrel as king and the tribe's close relationship to the House of Sartar was restored.

King Kenstrel was a chosen retainer of High King Tarkalor and led the Colymar to fight in the High King's wars against the Kitori tribe in Volsaxiland. King Kenstrel raised the Colymar warriors to follow High King Tarkalor into Tarsh in order to defend the free city of Bagnot against the evil Lunar King Phargentes One Arm. The armies met at the Battle of Grizzley Peak and the lunar armies swept the field after their vastly superior magicians engaged the troops with hostile spirits. Both King Tarkalor and his Queen were killed as was King Kenstrel. A month later Bagnot fell and its inhabitants were put to the sword.

With the support of Hend and Yerestra, Kenstrel's younger brother Jarstakos became chief of the Orlmarthing. With Yerestra's supprt, Jarstakos maintained the family connection with the House of Sartar and was a retainer and supporter of King Terasarin Tarkalorsson. However, the Ernaldori Brandgorssons (Estavos and Dangmet) had more support amongst the clans and were chosen as the kings of the Colymar. They maintained a close friendship with Jarstakos and the Orlmarthing and in 1598, Jarstakos Hendsson became king of the Colymar. Then disaster struck - in 1600, his friend and patron King Terasarin Tarkalorsson was killed by lunar sorcery and it was clear that a great war between Sartar and the Lunar Empire was coming. King Jarstakos was among the tribal kings who finally crowned Salinarg King of Sartar (although it took three times to successfully perform). When Salingarg and the Household of Death invaded the Lunar Empire, King Salinarg raised the Colymar and mustered them at Runegate. When Salinarg's battered army returned to Runegate, King Jarstakos prepared for the worst. He led the defense of Runegate but was killed and eaten by the Crimson Bat along with most of the great warriors of the Colymar.

Upon Jarstakos' death, the Colymar fyrd chose Orlkarth Lhankpentsson of the Taraling clan as king and followed him to Boldhome where the king and his warriors were killed by the Lunars. In 1603, the Orlmarthing clan chose Kenstrel's surviving son, Gordangar (who was married to King Danmet Brandgorsson's daughter), as chieftain. He has maintained a strong alliance with the powerful White Horse bloodline of the Taraling clan (with three successive tribal kings to its name).
