I don't imagine they do live at the same stead, that would stretch credibility. In fact the Vingan is not a weapon thane.

Well, actually he is not the Chiefs son, but only the Chief and his soon-to-be wife know that. One of the 'bangs' is that the Chief actually plans to make his soon-to-be-wife's eldest son his heir, to be anounced during the game!
