Odal defined

'Odal' is given in Chambers' Dictionary. It's shown as a variant for
'udal', which is a word used in the Orkneys and Shetlands for 'land held
without a feudal superior, allodial'. Allodial has a similar meaning, and is also said to be the opposite of feudal.
