The word for queue in Portugal is bicha. Which means gay man in Brazil. When I first came to Brazil I was 23. In due course I became 24, which was the source of much hilarity. It implies gayness.*

So yes, Rory, you were right, although the same thing happens with indigenous names for things as up there.
